GATSBY ESSAY
What exactly is the American Dream? For me, the American Dream is to be rich, successful, well loved, and respected. In the Great Gatsby, Gatsby is demonstrated as the stereotypical rich guy living the dream. He throws huge parties that are well known across the city. His house is spectacular causing people to be intrigued by it’s beautiful, sculpted infrastructure. A guy who dresses in the finest silk, completely elegant from head to toe. The way he talks is no different, he’s a regular guy. Prior to the story, he was poor. What changed Gatsby? Love. Gatsby wanted to be rich because Daisy wanted to live that kind of life. Being so obsessed, he did everything he could to be at her level. Gatsby symbolizes today’s culture because when you’re attracted to someone, you will do everything you can to please them. Gatsby is an outsider in a different world. He looks the part of it, but does he really feel it?
