His mother was bitten by a rattlesnake before giving birth of him. Was abandoned at the age of 7. He did horrible in school, so he dropped out. Became a drug dealer. Sentenced in prison. He found poetry as ecstasy. 

"Immigrants in our own land"

What he means by immigrants: new comers in the prison.
